TACF YouTube ChannelToday marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women in the United States the right to vote. As we reflect on how the landscape has changed (or not changed) for women around the world over the past 100 years, we wanted to share a series of special videos spotlighting our fellows and their achievements.
Since the Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship was founded by Marin Alsop (Chief Conductor of the Vienna Radio Symphony and Music Director of the Baltimore Symphony) in 2002, we have had 24 awardees. These women hail from 16 countries and currently hold 18 Music Directorships. They are committed to being part of a brighter, more equitable future. We’ll be sharing their stories and music with you over the coming weeks.
We’re kicking things off with this clip from ACROSS THE LINE OF DREAMS. With words by Jessica Duchen and music by Roxanna Panufnik, this piece celebrates the lives of two outstanding women at the end of the 19th century: Harriet Tubman & Rani Lakshmibai
Taki founder Marin Alsop and Fellow Valentina Peleggi (2016–2018), lead the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra and Choir.
